Theodor Cristian Niculae is a Bucharest-based scenographer, multidisciplinary artist, and cultural worker whose practice navigates between theatre, film, and visual culture. His interventions span across local and international institutions, engaging with the apparatuses of cultural production not as neutral platforms, but as sites of negotiation, tension, and trial.
-
The stage /like any built environment/ can either reproduce hierarchies or dismantle them. In his work, there’s an ongoing attempt to reclaim scenographic space as something lived as well as something shared, rather than consumed / a space where bodies negotiate, bodies remember and resist.
-
As a curator, he is committed to dismantling the hegemonic structures that dictate visibility and value in the contemporary art field. Shifting the usual perception of exhibitions
as end-points, he mobilizes exhibitions  as discursive, often precarious, spaces of resistance—foregrounding the work of young, and often structurally excluded artists. Rather than reinforcing prestige-driven economies of recognition, his curatorial gestures seek to reconfigure cultural capital, insisting on collectivism, accessibility, and the political urgency of artistic labor as a vector for systemic transformation.
